Tips On Severe Anxiety Symptoms
Virtually anyone can remember a time when mild feelings of apprehension and a pounding heart heralded an unfamiliar situation, but when severe anxiety symptoms hit, the results are much more dramatic and uncomfortable. Since these are often mistaken for other physical or mental disorders, it is important to learn to identify the symptoms in order to recognize them when they occur.
In the early days of man, survival depended upon an individuals ability to recognize dangerous situations and be able to react quickly to them. It is likely for this reason that the emotion of anxiety developed within humans. By pumping adrenaline through the system, the body was able to prepare for fight or flight. This rush of energy caused the heart to beat faster, the muscles to tense and the body to sweat as well as creating feelings of foreboding and of an impending danger. These feelings persist even in todays world, although the threats we face are different. While they may be uncomfortable, they are considered to be normal and generally pass quickly.
Sometimes, however, lifes problems can seem overwhelming. In some individuals, the inability to handle stress from work, home, personal relationships, financial situations or other causes brings about severe anxiety symptoms that can easily mimic actual physical disorders. Chest pain, a heart beating wildly, nausea, diarrhea, frequent urination, fainting and difficulty breathing are some of the most dramatic of these symptoms. Often, the person experiencing these along with sweating, trembling and headache may believe they are having a heart attack or some other serious occurrence. Even the emotional distress felt can lead an individual to believe they may be going crazy. A near constant feeling of impending doom envelopes the person; causing an inability to focus on daily tasks or to even be able to carry out normal activities.
Often when symptoms of this severity occur, only medical intervention is able to relieve them. A variety of oral medications are available that can alleviate the disturbing physical and emotional manifestations of anxiety. It is also very beneficial to seek out counseling services to help the individual to get a better grasp on their problems and to find solutions for them. Through this type of assistance, the individual can get the medical help necessary in order to get life back in control quickly.
It is important to realize that occasional mild anxious feelings are normal, but equally as important to seek medical help when severe anxiety symptoms begin to affect the quality of life.
