Why Social Anxiety Needs To Be Treated Naturally
Social anxiety is a condition which is related to the panic attack, and which often exhibits the same symptoms. It is also related to the condition of depression, and the two often go hand in hand. Whereas panic and depression are general conditions, anxiety in social situations is very specific. The sufferer can go for very long periods of time without experiencing any discomfort, and then attempt to attend a social gathering and have the fear come back again. Treatments for this condition can vary from crude drugs aimed at short term relief to extended sessions of therapy to determine the root cause.
Diagnosing the case in the first instance is often difficult, as a person who is forced to attend a lot of social events will appear exactly as they would if they had another form of panic anxiety. This is the case with children, who are forced to attend school, and who are continually in situations where they need to socialize with other children. Even if a panic attack occurs when there is no actual social event taking place, this does not mean that it is not being caused by the memory or fear of one.
The use of drugs in treating any anxiety disorder is controversial, but in the case of a disorder which only appears intermittently it is even more so. It is possible to use drugs in a very short term situation to help the patient over one important hurdle they have to overcome, but they are often prescribed on a far more long term basis. This is rarely going to be the best way to treat this condition, as any time there is no event to cope with, the drug is just wasted.
Not only that, but the drug is training the body to cope with it. This will mean that when the drug is needed, it will not be as effective. Using drugs in the long term also inevitably causes side effects, which can be severe. It is also risky to use drugs as a short term expedient, because even this can be enough to form an addiction and lead to potential problems.
Natural and risk free methods of dealing with social anxiety are greatly to be preferred, and these can take many forms. It is obvious that deep breathing exercises, and bodily relaxation should be practiced, as these carry no risk or potential disadvantage. Avoiding artificial stimulants and depressants such as nicotine and alcohol will be of major benefit to you. A long term course of treatments aimed at eradicating the condition altogether can take many different forms, from behavioral therapy to diet to hypnotherapy and counseling. No one solution will work with every case of social anxiety.
