How Depression And Anxiety Treatments Can Work In Different Ways

Depression and anxiety are related conditions which stem from the same root. That root is clearly a disturbance of some kind within the mind, but the exact cause is often difficult to determine. Advanced therapy can sometimes shed a light on the root causes which need to be eliminated for the condition to heal, but many sufferers are not in a position to pay for such therapy. In most cases, a more short-term approach is used, with the managing of the symptoms as the primary goal. Ideally, of course, we should be trying to relieve the symptoms and cure the condition.

The main difference between the two conditions is that depression lasts for longer and goes deeper. An anxiety attack affects the patient severely for a short period of time, but depression can affect them for far longer. It is possible for someone to remain depressed for weeks at a time, and this can easily affect their quality of live severely. The drugs which are used to treat each condition are similar, and are used in the same way. The idea is to alter the chemical reactions in the pathways of the brain, and to prevent the troublesome emotion from being triggered.

In the case of depression drugs, the prescription will always be long term, as the nature of depression is that it is enduring and hard to remove. Anxiety drugs can be prescribed for short periods, just to get the sufferer through an important period of their life, or one where they are going to be subjected to a large number of anxiety stimulants. Long term drug use by those with anxiety can often cause more problems than it solves, as the body will be drugged at times when there is no anxiety.

There are natural treatments for both depression and anxiety, which can be used to lessen the symptoms. With depression, giving the body more time in the natural sunlight, and in more natural environments with plenty of green life, can be a very effective way of reducing the symptoms. Physical exercise is also extremely useful in fighting depression. These techniques are also effective against anxiety, but to a lesser extent as the problem is not continuous.

Treating these conditions naturally also brings in the possibility of therapy which gets right to the root cause, and which can permanently cure the condition. If the problem stems from repressed emotional causes, using counseling to go back in time and uncover them will give the possibility of reducing the emotional charge and freeing the patient. Hypnotherapy can also be extremely useful in allowing the mind to make contact with that which is hidden. Only by reaching the root cause can you permanently cure depression and anxiety.
