Why Anxiety Panic Syndrome Needs Long Term Treatment
Anxiety panic attack syndrome is on the increase, both among adults and children. This is an established fact, although the degree to which it is increasing is hard to assess. This is due to several factors. Firstly, there is no doubt that conditions such as this were disregarded in previous eras. If someone was feeling anxious or fearful, this was never linked to the possibility of an underlying illness. The person was just expected to overcome the problem and get on with their life, which was easier said than done.
Many of the conditions which are now accepted as medical fact were not even considered until recent years, and this obviously leads to an artificial increase in the numbers of people who are officially diagnosed with the condition. There is no doubt, though, that the real numbers of those who are affected are also higher than they would otherwise be. Many reasons have been given for this, usually amounting to increases in stress due to the pace of modern life, and the extra pollutants in the modern environment.
The anxiety and depression conditions can affect people in different ways, and they can affect them in different circumstances. Depression is a longer lasting phenomenon, and can affect people for extended periods for no apparent reason. Anxiety tends to be much shorter lasting, affecting people in certain situations. A common example of this is performance anxiety, which will consistently affect anyone who is in a pressure situation, and who needs to keep producing their best and most consistent effort.
There is little which can be done once someone has started an anxiety panic attack. Once the attack is in motion, it can only be left to take its course. Many of the recommended treatments can even serve to make the situation worse, as they can affect the breathing still further. It is often suggested that those suffering anxiety attempt to relax, and deep breathing exercises are often given to help this happen. These exercises actually serve to help the mind make contact with the emotionally charged incident buried within, and they therefore worsen the condition in the short term.
These anxiety panic attacks can be treated in the short term with drugs, which prevent chemicals reaching certain pathways within the brain. These only help for the short term, and the breathing problems which occur during an attack actually pinpoint the way to the possible solution. If the breathing helps to make contact with the charged memory which is causing the difficulty, it can be used to do this under controlled therapeutic conditions. This can help to remove the charge from that memory, facilitating the healing of the patient and the elimination of anxiety panic.
